There are different ways of working with a group.
1) You can be the one in charge and order everyone else around.
2) You can follow the leader to the best of your ability even if the leaders orders are unclear or you think that they are pulling you away from an advantageous position. If in doubt, ask for clarification … if and when there is a correct time to do so.
3) You can run around like a lone wolf, but then why are you signing up to “run with a pack”?
4) You can try to see what is going on with the group and figure out what you can do to augment the group regardless of what it is doing. This can involve changing your role and/or tactics as necessary to improve the group. It requires not only paying attention to what the leader is telling you to do and what your fellow group members are doing but also what strengths and weaknesses the group has and figuring out how to amplify the positives and diminish the negatives.
